Background & Experience

Project Beisbol Ambassador

Sugar Ray Marimón is a former Colombian professional baseball pitcher from Cartagena. He has played for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball and the KT Wiz of the KBO league. He made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves on April 15, 2015. Marimón also represented Colombia in the 2017 World Baseball Classic and during the 2022 Caribbean Series. Nowadays, Marimón is the pitching coach of the Tigres, Cartagena’s professional team.

Sugar Ray has been vital to Project Béisbol and we could not be more excited to invite a native Colombian to the Field Ambassador program. Sugar participated in the 2023 Project Beisbol – MLBPAA “Unidos por el Beisbol” tour in Colombia and was a key figure in connecting and showing the Colombian children their goals materialized through baseball and his own experiences. Sugar is very aligned with our mission, which was shown during his participation in the inaugural Field Ambassador program during the 2023 Juegos Nacionales in Cali, where he co-led a clinic for children from Cali and Roldanillo at the Institución Educativa Jose Maria Cabal. We cannot wait to work with Sugar for years to come as we continue spreading and growing baseball in Colombia, using him as a tool to show kids that dreams do come true, even for kids living in situations like theirs.
