Background & Experience
Jed Lowrie is an American former professional baseball player, who primarily played 2B, SS, 3B. He was drafted in 2005 and played 14 seasons in the Major Leagues for the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, and New York Mets. Lowrie was elected to the American League All-Star team in 2018 and finished his MLB career with a .257 batting average, .333 OBP, 121 home runs, 292 doubles and 594 RBI’s.
He and his wife Milessa have been extremely supportive of Project Beisbol on a number of levels. We first connected during a U.S. Department of State funded Sports Diplomacy program in 2015 in Colombia. Jed carried out clinics in three cities for over 400 ballplayers with our support. He saw the value in our mission and soon became one of our biggest donors, ensuring that we had the operational funds and new baseball equipment to take it to the next level. This and the equipment matching over the years represented our first contact with the MLB Players Trust, which is currently our primary institutional supporter. The Players Trust has subsequently funded All-Star English, over $80,000 in new equipment and the expansion to Brazil. Milessa’s relationships within the Department of State not only made the 2018 Nicaragua Sports Diplomacy mission possible, but connected us with a former Consul General in Brazil and current U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela. Those connections facilitated the necessary relationships to carry out a very successful expansion to Brazil a couple weeks ago.
Shortly after the mission to Nicaragua, the Lowries led the Lowrie Hits for Project Beisbol campaign, helping raise over $25,000. In 2021-2022, the Lowries led off our fundraising effort with a sizable donation and helped us raise over $50,000. Additionally, the Lowries made Jose Mosquera’s Journey possible. They have provided three prosthetic legs for this inspirational young athlete, invited him to Spring Training with the Mets 2019 and facilitated Jose throwing out the first pitch for the Oakland A’s in 2021. They have not only changed Jose’s life but changed our organization in the process. Earlier this year, we were honored to welcome Jed to the Project Beisbol Board of Directors. Additionally, Jed was recently appointed to the inaugural class of the MLB Commissioner’s Ambassador Program.
Lowrie is a graduate from Stanford University, with a degree in Political Science, and is originally from Salem, Oregon. Currently, Lowrie lives in Portland with his wife Milessa, with their two kids. Along with serving on the board at Project Beisbol, Jed is also on the board of trustees at OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
