Project Beisbol Ambassador
Desmond “Desi” Relaford, is a former professional baseball player born in Valdosta, Georgia, United States. He played for seven teams at every position on the field except catcher for 11 years. He was considered one of the best utility players of his era. Some of his greatest achievements were with the Philadelphia Phillies, for whom he played 5 years (1996-2000) and with the Kansas City Royals, where he played 2 years (2003-2004). In 2001, Desi batted .302 for the Mets. Relaford opened his own record label, 6 Holes Records, in 2001. He retired in 2008 and served as head baseball coach of the Danville Otterbots of MiLB from 2021 to 2023.
We are excited to welcome Desi to this program given his vast experience playing, coaching, and being around Major League Baseball. Desi has been a big part of Project Béisbol as he has been a participant for two years straight in the Project Beisbol – MLBPAA “Unidos por el Beisbol” tours; in both Colombia and Brazil. Desi also participated in our inaugural Field Ambassador program during the 2023 Juegos Nacionales in Cali, where he co-led a clinic for children from Cali and Roldanillo at the Institución Educativa Jose Maria Cabal. He shares our passion for a grassroots growth approach in baseball and softball while also demonstrating a big passion for on-field teaching to help the underserved youth we benefit.
