Responsibilities: Community Ambassador

Location of Residence: Tierra Bomba - Colombia

Background & Experience

Amaury Ceren has been training children and leading his program for approximately 13 years. Over this time, he has impacted countless children, many of whom are now professionals, such as lawyers, military personnel, and workers in private companies, while others continue to play softball. Amaury has been a volunteer with Project Beisbol for many years, which has played a significant role in his work. One of his most memorable and inspiring moments with Project Beisbol was a trip to the United States on the U.S. Department of State funded and Project Beisbol managed – Sport for Social Change exchange program in 2018-2019, a moment he still cherishes and often talks about with friends and acquaintances. Baseball is essential to his community, as it helps keep children and young people away from negative influences like alcohol and drugs. Many of the children who passed through Amaury’s program are now upstanding individuals, far from these vices. For Amaury, baseball is his life; it kept him from taking wrong paths and allowed him to meet many good friends, including those from Project Beisbol, which he sees as a great blessing for both him and the children he serves. His program began when a foundation arrived on the island of Tierra Bomba, seeking trainers. After being selected as a coach, the foundation eventually dissolved, but Amaury, alongside his colleague Heriberto Herrera, continued their work with the children and the community of Tierra Bomba. The primary goal of his program is to help children become well-rounded individuals, using sports as a means to guide them away from violence and foster integrity, both in the community and beyond.
